SHINING STAR OF “BIHAR”




A young film director from Bihar, “Nitin Chandra” a sensitive soul  was born in a middle class Bihari family. He completed his schooling from Don Bosco Patna and later completed his Intermediate from Bihar College of Engineering in 1998. He was selected for Bachelor of Information Technology in Delhi and he was in delhi for 4 long years and later pursued Masters in Communication Studies with Specialisation in Video Production from University of Pune in the year 2003 - 2005. During his higher studies at University of Pune, he made his first short film called “The Outsider” which was adjudged among top three films of the University and was send for Chennai Film festival. After passing out from University, he shifted to Mumbai for a career in Hindi Film Industry. He started working as an Asst. Director with Directors like Tanuja Chandra, Dibakar Banerjee and many others. He had a short stint at Dubai also as a Film Director. In the year 2008 he started his company called ”Champaran Talkies”, with office in Mumbai and Patna..After lending a voice to the trials and tribulations of migrant Biharis through his hard-hitting documentary, film maker Nitin Chandra, from Bihar  is now out to capture the disastrous consequences of the anti-north Indian tirade in Mumbai and its reaction in the northern states. The documentary, Bring Back Bihar — Moment of Awakening, is about the dehumanisation and mechanisation in big cities, tries to delvel deep in search of answers for the “cold-blooded encounter” of Patna youth Rahul Raj and touches on the utter helplessness of defenseless people caught in the crossfire of regional bias made him greatly affected by the recent violence in Maharashtra against Biharis. He has made a movie called "Bring Back Bihar" to highlight the migration and economic woes of Bihar. The film is in documentary format and the language of commentary  in Hindi. It delves into the golden past of Bihar and encompasses the journey of the state from its glorious past till the present day when it faces economic strangulation. The film intends to portray the skewed policies of powerful people, who could have shaped the golden destiny of this state but instead scripted its downfall with corrupt and impotent political leadership over the years. The film features interviews of economists, journalists, students, professionals, activists, victims of floods and riots in Maharashtra, businessmen, villagers, migrant labor and others. The film has been extensively shot in some of the most troubled, flood-stricken areas that will bring forth the inhuman conditions under which lakhs of people from Bihar have been struggling for several years. The documentary created a huge furore and shake minds of several biharis at local  and international level. Various individuals and agencies screened his film at various centers. His first documentary “Bring Back Bihar - Moment of Awakening” was screened at various places in India and abroad.Interestingly, this film has been made with small contribution and loans from different people, all middle class ordinary guys. Chandra, who also writes his own script, and his crew travelled to different cities like Bangalore, Nasik, Pune, Mumbai, New Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Patna and the remote parts of Bihar villages for this film. It is an inspiring film highlighting the present situation of Bihar and how it is recuperating under the current leadership, with the hope that the lost glory can be regained once again In his documentary ..
Chandra's short films include:
1. The Outsider - The story of Shankar Kumar of Bhojpur who goes to Maharashtra for Railway Entrance in 2003 and the violence and discrimination faced by him makes him re-think his priorities ultimately realizing he did not belong in Maharashtra. The story, however, takes a sharp turn when he meets an equally ill-fated Maharashtrian fellow looking for the same railway job.
2. Meera - It's a story of an upper-middle class working widow who is fighting for her husband's money which lays dormant in a bank account. Her son suspects her of having an affair with the lawyer. In the end, however, he realizes he was wrong all along.
The young director has  also worked with various advertisement film directors for national brands like Horlicks, Outlook, Eno and Elder Pharmaceuticals. He currently is working on a script on Bihar, that, as he characterizes it, would be cult film.


National and International Media covered the reaction of his film and media all across supports his cause for upliftment of Bihar. He is working with several NGOs and organisations for Educational and projects related to floods. His next film is “Boya Pade Babool kaa” being adapted from book by flood activist Dinesh Kumar Mishra. It is funded by an International NGO. Nitin Chandra is dedicated to uplift the level of Bihari films Industry and Cinema as a whole and for that he is already working on a few scripts to make international Cinema which are based in Bihar but would have international audience to endorse it. He writes for several websites also and he is committed to play an active role in development of Bihar. He travels all over the country for his project but most of the time he is in Mumbai and Bihar for his projects. Apart from film making he is is social activist and educationalist. He organises Film Making courses and workshops which he also conducted at various colleges in Patna and Delhi.
